My sister-in-law, Katrina, is hosting a little crafty open house with a bunch of local talented chicks in a few weeks, so I’m working on some projects to throw in the mix. I’ll post more details of the party later (feel free to go ahead and mark your calendars for Thursday, October 8
), but wanted to leave you with a shot of what’s cooking! Y’all come back now, hear?

Oh, And an Apron Too!
Published August 1, 2009 accessories , gifts , sewing 3 CommentsTags: flirty skirty apron, kati cupcake, sewing
While I was working on my nieces’ dresses the other day, I remembered that I kind of did the same thing for their mom’s birthday…last December. Only I told her I’d make her an apron. And then I forgot! Sheesh.
So anyway, while I was planning and cutting everything else, I threw this little baby into my pile and since it was finished first and I couldn’t wait for her to see it before showing you (sorry, K), I rushed over to Kayla’s for a quick photo. Bonus: I got a yummy pork chop dinner out of the deal! I’m sooo lucky.
BTW, if you like this apron (which went together fast and easy), it’s the Flirty Skirty pattern I purchased at Kati Cupcake (with a few of my own modifications…but you get the idea).
Banishing thoughts of keeping it all to myself,

My nieces came over and spent the afternoon with me today…after a yummy lunch (thanks K!) they each picked a style and the fabrics they wanted to use, then happily played while I measured, drafted, and cut. We ran out of time to complete the sewing process, so stay tuned for finished dresses!

Flower Crops

More on my continuing quest to re-purpose long pants for summer: these little crops can’t be more simple: take a pair of too-short jeans (can you tell we’re a jeans family?), fold and stitch the cuffs in place. To dress them up, add a pretty fabric flower pin–this little idea makes my head spin with all the possibilities…you can have custom-looking pants, skirts, whatever for any occasion using anything you want!
Dizzy-lizzy love,

I love hooks! They’re my go-to organizing solution and I have them everywhere in my home. I especially like hooks on doors.
I have a tiny bathroom, so I hang my boy’s towels on his door. But towels don’t always behave the way I want: they slip off the hooks from time to time, and I don’t like to pick them up!
In fact, I’m tired of picking them up. So these towels and I had a little date with my sewing machine.
And now we’ve come to an amicable agreement:
Have a beautiful weekend!

It’s that time of year again: we need summer clothes. I’m in a make-what-I-have-work-frame-of-mind lately, so I decided to see how many different ways I can do cutoffs for the girls. Here’s version number one, for Miss J. (who says it’s just too cold and rainy to wear shorts…sadly, she’s right, but I made them anyway):
