She’s Got the Bug

September 8, 2009

HorseHat

Miss J asked me to teach her to sew this afternoon. As much as I’d like to, my desk and sewing area are a disaster right now, and I’ve got a long list of other critical things to do tonight. So we settled for a quick lesson with needle and thread: Shoney-the-Horse was threatening to lose her stuffing, so we mended her. Following the fix-up, Miss J decided her horsey needed a hat, and a sleeve I cut off her favorite T-shirt last week made a perfect visor. We pulled out the glue gun to add a little bling, and VOILA! One project down…we’ll see what happens to all the fabric scraps the girl is cutting into as I write…

Eastern Idaho State Fair

September 7, 2009

I have been asked to show some of the pictures that I entered in the Eastern Idaho State Fair, and how I did.  So, here ya go……

My cute little girl got one of the BIG State Fair Honorable Mention ribbon right as you walk in the front door! (So I just realized on Friday, that this picture also has a blue ribbon. I feel kinda dumb that I had no idea there was one hidding behind the big pink one.)

Recycle This

Recycling

I live in the country. We have wide-open spaces and gorgeous sunsets, but we do not have curbside recycling.

I’ve taken a long time to decide to recycle. Well, that’s not entirely true. I like to re-purpose and re-use things in my home, and I’ve always believed in the concept of being a ‘wise steward’ of my resources. By no means am I a ‘greenie’. I just like the idea of using things efficiently. I’ve been re-using the blank back-side of documents as scrap-paper for years. Ahem. Back to my story. So, I haven’t done much recycling because:

A. I have no curbside pickup.
B. I haven’t been sure if/where there are drop off facilities in my locality.
C. I don’t really have room: we have no garage, and the house is pretty much full.

After a conversation with a friend who has basically eliminated her garbage pick-up bill by hauling recyclables to the appropriate place in town (now I know where to take stuff!), I began tossing the idea of jumping on the recycling bandwagon. I tossed and tossed and kept coming up with problem C. No room in my house. And then, I found these lovely baskets…and reorganized my pantry. And now I’m doing it. Well, I’m accumulating the clean stuff I’m willing to let sit in my pantry until drop-off day. Which is better than nothing. And I’m kind of having fun smashing all those soda cans. It’s a good stress reliever.

All this to say, I reorganized my pantry last week. And I like how it looks, even though I wish it looked like this pantry. But hey, there’s always next time! 😉

Onward and upward,
Audrey

I Almost Forgot

Rug

I’m a lucky girl! And darn if I didn’t almost forget to tell you all about it!

Back in April, Kristen of Gock’s Frocks held a giveaway for this GORGEOUS rug on her blog, and I won it! It is soft, luxurious, looks perfect here on my landing, and goes beautifully with the projects I have planned for this room…if I ever get to them! Ha!

Anyway, jump on over to her blog and etsy store…she makes gorgeous things for little girls.

Gratefully,
Audrey

PackSaddle Lake

August 21, 2009

We went for a ride in the mountains a few weeks ago with some friends to PackSaddle Lake . It was a beautiful drive, with amazing views of the valley and also of the Grand Tetons (I am not sure why I didn’t stop for a picture of them). It is a fun place to spend the afternoon!!

Krista

August 19, 2009

So, she is not really a new bride…she has actually been married for a few years now! Krista and I have wanted to take pictures of her in her wedding dress for quite some time now, and we finally managed to get it done. We didn’t do any extreme trashing of the dress, but we did have a great time and managed to get it pretty dirty! Here are a few of my favorite pictures from this session:
